Animal protein… yet another diabetes risk
Animal protein intake was linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in this new meta-analysis of studies including over 600,000 people. They found every 20-gram increase in animal protein – less than one serving of bacon – was linked to a seven per cent increased risk. In contrast, there was no link between plant protein and type 2 diabetes. In fact, for every 20 grams of animal protein replaced with plant protein, the risk of developing diabetes fell by 20 per cent.
