Maggie Baird
Maggie Baird is an American actress, musician and founder of Support + Feed, a non-profit organisation aimed at providing wholesome plant-based food to underserved communities. She is also the mother of Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.
Baird made her television debut in an American sitcom in 1981. She went on to perform on Broadway and a series of television shows during the nineties, including LA Law and Walker, Texas Ranger. Between 1994 and 2000, Baird taught at the Groundlings, a renowned improvisational and sketch comedy troupe and school in LA. During the 2000s, she appeared in some hugely popular television shows including The X Files, Bones and Six Feet Under.
Baird told bluedotliving, “I became a vegetarian when I was 17 because I loved animals.” When she moved to New York at the age of 20, she saw an infographic about the connection between animal agriculture and the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, which she described as a “real a-ha moment.” After that, she became more aware of the impact of animal agriculture and became vegan due to her concern for the environment, the animals and for her own personal health.
In 2020, Baird founded Support + Feed, a non-profit with the goal of providing nutritious plant-based food to underserved communities:
“When the Covid 19 crisis began and my family, like most others, isolated in our home, we saw that food insecurity would worsen, just as small businesses would struggle. A small group of us conceived the plan to purchase nourishing plant based meals from local restaurants and deliver them to charitable organisations to support their communities.
With the help of an army of volunteers we launched Support + Feed in Los Angeles, then in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC. We worked every day to offer nourishing and planet forward meals to as many people as possible. We supported our communities, plant based businesses, and drove resources, through product donations from plant based companies, to our partners to create more meals.”
