Casey Affleck

American actor and filmmaker Casey Affleck has been on screen since childhood, first appearing in the PBS television film Lemon Sky in 1988. The younger brother of actor Ben Affleck, Casey has built a career in his own right through a mix of indie favourites and Hollywood films. He appeared in To Die For (1995) and Chasing Amy (1997), before taking on larger roles including Good Will Hunting (1997) and Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy.
Affleck earned major critical acclaim in 2007 for his performance as Robert Ford in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which brought him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. That same year, he starred in Ben Affleck’s directorial debut Gone Baby Gone. In 2016, his performance in Manchester by the Sea won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, cementing his reputation as one of the most powerful actors of his generation.
Affleck has also been vegan since 1995 and has used his platform to speak up for animals for decades. He has supported campaigns with groups including PETA and Farm Sanctuary, calling attention to the realities of factory farming and encouraging people to choose compassionate food instead.
“When people ask me why I don’t eat meat or any other animal products, I say because they are unhealthy and they are the product of a violent and inhumane industry. Chickens, cows, and pigs in factory farms spend their whole lives in filthy, cramped conditions only to die a prolonged and painful death.”
