Dominick Thompson
Dominick Thompson is an American entrepreneur, athlete and social activist.
He had a tough start to life, witnessing a murder at the age of five, and later becoming a drug dealer, which landed him in prison. But Dominick turned his life around. In fact, it was while incarcerated that he became a vegetarian, and then later vegan.
After he was released, Dominick began seriously competing in endurance races, including marathons, triathlons, and ultra-races. He also became an executive at a leading healthcare company, where he saved enough money to launch Eat What Elephants Eat, an online nutrition and wellness program. In 2024, he published his first cookbook, also called Eat What Elephants Eat. Dominick also founded a sustainable clothing company, called craziedandweirdos. As well as showing that vegans can be strong athletes and that vegan food is delicious, Dominick is an outspoken activist on both animal and human rights issues.
“I eliminated meat from my diet in prison, over 15 years ago. I was vegetarian at that time and knew nothing about the dairy industry. I just knew meat was evil and I didn’t want any part of it. I learned later on so was dairy, and I eliminated those products sourced from that industry and became vegan. Again, I didn’t want to support anything evil and did not want any part of that energy near me.
While incarcerated I ate a lot of beans, rice, oatmeal filled with bananas, apples, peanut butter and tons of other carbs. Tons. My body transformed and became stronger. I dominated the weight pile on the ‘yard’ with my new found raw strength. I didn’t have access to supplements. I only had carbs. That’s it. Water, carbs and a new outlook on life. My mind and soul also transformed and became one with an energy greater than myself. Since that very day in my cell when I decided to eliminate meat from my diet, everything has worked in harmony.”
