Dr Will Bulsiewicz
Dr Will Bulsiewicz, aka the Gut Health MD, is a plant-based doctor who believes the answers to many of our ailments can be found in our gut – or more specifically our gut microbiome.
Dr Bulsiewicz argues that by taking care of the fibre-hungry bacteria living in our gut, we ultimately take care of ourselves. And the best way to do that is by feeding them as wide a variety of plant foods as possible.
His website states, “I help thousands of people just like you create incredible results in their health and wellbeing with one simple act: learning to take better care of their gut health with the power of plants.”1Bulsiewicz, W. 2022. About. Available: https://theplantfedgut.com/about/ [Accessed 26 January 2022].
The Gut Health MD went to medical school at Georgetown School of Medicine, trained in medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and gastroenterology at The University of North Carolina Hospitals, got his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University and a certificate in nutrition from Cornell University. He’s board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and an expert in digestive diseases and the gut. So if he says eat plants, you’d better believe him!
In 2020, Dr Bulsiewicz released his first book on the subject: Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome.
“The single greatest predictor of a healthy gut microbiome is the diversity of plants in one’s diet.”3Bulsiewicz, W. 2020. Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome. Avery Publishing Group.
