Tabitha Brown

Tabitha Brown is an American actress, television host, cook and author. Her career trajectory is far from straight forward. Tabitha began her career in entertainment in 2002 as a co-host of a local late-night show. She had several small acting roles but never managed to break through. At the same time as trying to make it as an actress, she was caring for her mother and struggling with her own chronic illness.

In 2017, while working as a taxi driver to support her acting career, Tabitha recorded a review of a Whole Food’s TTLA sandwich on TikTok, which went viral and launched her life in a new direction. Whole Foods hired Tabitha as a brand ambassador and she began sharing recipes, cooking tips and other content on TikTok. Two years later, she was signed to Creative Artists Agency and began hosting All Love on Ellen Digital Network. She also began hosting a children’s show called Tab Time and launched her own afro hair care product.

In 2021, she published her first book, ‘Feeding the Soul (because it’s my business): Finding Our Way to Joy, Love and Freedom’, which has number one on the New York Times Best Seller list and was followed up by her cookbook, ‘Cooking from the Spirit: Easy, Delicious, and Joyful Plant-Based Inspirations’, in 2022. In 2023, Tabitha won a Children’s & Family Creative Arts Emmy for hosting Tab Time.

Tabitha became vegan in 2017 after her daughter encouraged her to try it to address some of the chronic pain and fatigue she’d been experiencing. Ten days later, her debilitating headaches had vanished and Brown was a vegan convert. A little over a month after becoming vegan, she was sharing recipes online and trying “to make sure people of colour see themselves reflected” in the vegansphere.

“The reality is that viral vegan personalities are typically white—and give off an upper-class vibe. As a racialized vegan myself, I’ve spent countless hours scrolling through social media, seeking easy-to-make recipes. But it’s disheartening to watch rich, white influencers tout recipes loaded with expensive ingredients like raw cashews, Reishi mushrooms, and $12 artisanal vegan cheese blocks that few people can afford.” – Tabitha Brown, Vice
