How Will Covid-19 Impact Veganism? – New Report
COVID-19 is predicted to boost demand for plant-based foods due to an increase in veganism, says a new report.
Veganism is set to continue growing during the coronavirus outbreak motivated by people moving away from meat due to animal derived diseases and more people realising the benefits of a vegan diet, according to a report by market research body Markets and Markets.
And it’s good news for both new vegans and more seasoned herbivores as the global plant-based meats market is predicted to grow by 17% by 2021 as well.
Hap-pea days!
Pea protein is predicted to making its way onto our plates a lot more in the next year, due to its adaptable build-up making a good base for many different products.
This is hap-pea days for people who might be allergic to soy or gluten, as pea protein is allergen-friendly as well as high in nutrients and protein. It’s also more environmentally friendly than some other plant-based meats as it doesn’t use much land and it’s not resource-intensive to grow.
Vegan burgers are on a roll
Burgers are on a roll this year as vegan burger patties are projected to make up the biggest share in the plant-based meat market.
High street giants such as Burger King and KFC are moving into the plant-based burgers market, while supermarkets and vegan meat producers are expanding their vegan burger ranges in shops.
And, who doesn’t love a meaty burger on the BBQ over summer…looks like we’re all in luck!
The US is sprinting ahead
The US is set to be the fastest growing market, according to the report, as more Americans embrace a vegan lifestyle. The effects of Covid-19 are thought to make people more concerned about health, and take up a vegan diet for its well-known health benefits.
Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat are both based in the US as well, meaning the country has more access to the leading plant-based meat developers and supermarkets are creating more shelf space for vegan foods.
