Andrew Lilley Becomes an Iron Man!
Andrew successfully raised £1,927 beating his £1,850 target!
Think vegans can’t get iron? Vegan athlete and Viva! supporter, Andrew Lilley, is proving what can be achieved on plant-powered diet by running the Bolton Ironman to fundraise for Viva!
The Ironman is an ultra-triathlon starting with a 2.4 mile swim, before a 112 mile cycle and finally a full marathon of 26.22 miles. This grueling challenge will be testing even for Andrew who has completed 6 marathons to date – he needs your help to get him over the finish line!
“I am running an Ironman for Viva! because they give animals the voice they lack”, said Andrew.
He’s over half way to meeting his fundraising goal to help Viva! continue saving animals, campaigning for the environment and promoting better health.
Andrew has been training since October, getting up at 5.30am in the cold and the rain for a 2km swim in Deptford swimming baths followed by a 10 mile run to work or a cycle… every morning. All this whilst running a vegan pop-up food stall in London selling foods like vegan bratwurst and mac ‘n’ cheese alongside his full-time day job! He’s feeling nervous how well he’s going to do in the Ironman challenge as he’s only ever done 6 hours of continuous exercise before but he’s very keen to take on the task!
