Investigation: Biosecurity
At three Welsh markets we covertly filmed an appalling disregard for biosecurity – one of the many failings in modern animal husbandry that could be to blame for the spread of bovine TB.
Viva! Animals launches dynamic campaigns to expose factory farming. Most animals spend their short lives in misery, imprisoned in squalor and exploited for human use. Their endless suffering is kept out of sight behind closed doors and so it falls to Viva! to expose the truth. We film and photograph the conditions on factory farms to show the public how animals really live and urge them to choose vegan. We take our undercover footage and run nationwide media campaigns, hitting the headlines with our shocking images. We take to the streets to show the British public where their food really comes from.

Every year, 30,000 ‘meat’ horses leave Poland for the slaughterhouses of Italy. There is no rest, no water and no food for many on the road to misery – a five day journey across six countries.
In 2005 another shocking Viva! undercover investigation, the reality of life for Britain’s millions of factory farmed ducks was exposed to public view.
In 2004, Viva! and its supporters persuaded Marks & Spencer to drop factory-farmed whole duck, after countrywide protests outside its stores and a blitz of media attention.
Viva! has been fighting against the use of kangaroo leather in football boots since 2003, taking on sportswear giants Adidas.
Viva! launched its campaign against ostrich meat in 1996 and Tesco was our first target, being the nation’s largest supplier of this meat.
