Viva! discovered that an astounding 95,000 male calves in the UK were shot in the head during 2015 – figures available from the industry and published in 2018.

All newborn babies are taken from their mothers – the baby bull calves shot as a useless by-product, or sold for veal; the baby girls kept in solitary confinement for up to eight weeks before eventually replacing their mothers in the milking herd.
