Ruth Searle
Hello! I’m an artist, writer and marine biologist. I’ve always loved art and have sold my work around the world to help fund my humpback whale research – including from boats in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Now I’m a writer and artist working from my studio in Monmouthshire.
My art explores the connection I have with nature and animals. My recent work explores nature through abstract paintings on natural materials, including reclaimed Welsh slate. I like the freedom of creativity when working in abstracts but I also love painting and drawing animals.
When I create a picture of an animal, I start with the eyes of my subject. When we look into the eyes of another being, we see their soul. I love the feeling of connection I have when I paint and draw animals – they are my greatest passion in life. I hope I can help save animals by supporting Viva! with my art.
Why I am vegan
I am vegan because I love animals and I love life. All life is precious and I won’t be part of taking the lives of billions of animals that do not want to die or in the shameful carnage and cruelty of the meat and dairy industry. The imprisonment, abuse and slaughter of animals is unnecessary and obscenely wrong. Animals are sentient beings just like us, with emotional lives and a desire to live naturally and in peace.
I am vegan because I love our world – our only home in the Universe. The desire to eat dead animals and consume their milk is destroying our planet. Our environment is wrecked by deforestation, our fresh water is dwindling and our seas are being ransacked for the few fish that are left. Our precious Earth is drowning in pollution and all the while people are going hungry in the developing world as the crops they could eat are sent to the West to feed farmed animals.
I am vegan because I value my life, my health and wellbeing. The science is out there for anyone who cares about the truth. People who eat a whole food, plant-based diet – vegans – are healthier and live longer than those who eat animal products. That’s an irrefutable fact.
I want to live in peace with the world, with other animals and with my conscience. If more people became vegan, we could change the lives of animals and the world for the better.
Why I want to support Viva!
Viva! Campaigns peacefully for a better life for animals – to stop the slaughter – and for a better world. Their work is vital to help end the cruelty and suffering of billions of animals that are murdered every year and to end the environmental damage that goes with it. Viva! Helps people to go vegan with support and information, making a difference in the world. By joining Viva! and being an artist for animals, I can do a little bit more to help support the change that is so badly needed.
