Why Lewis Hamilton is vegan
Lewis Hamilton is vegan for health and for the animals.
Hamilton has been openly vegan since 2017 and is proud of the decision, frequently using his platform to speak about compassion for animals and the impact our choices have on the world.1Starostinetskaya, A. 2018. He shares plant-based and animal rights messages with his millions of followers and has previously highlighted his values in his Instagram bio with the words “Plant Based Diet. Love Animals”. In 2018, he was named Peta’s UK Person of the Year for how he inspires fans to consider vegan living.2Sachkova, M. 2018. PETA Announces 2018’s Person of the Year: Lewis Hamilton. Peta UK. That same year he wrote that choosing a vegan, plant-based diet was linked to caring about animals worldwide and said he had felt the best he had ever felt. However, in 2025 Lewis began horse riding prompting some to say that although he eats a plant-based diet he’s not technically vegan.3lewishamilton. 2025. Instagram post. Off the track, Hamilton has helped bring plant-based options to more people, including co-founding the vegan burger chain Neat Burger in 2019, which sadly closed in 2025. He has also spoken about feeding his bulldog Roscoe a plant-based diet and later invested in Bramble, a plant-based dog food company.4Bramble. 2026. He encourages anyone who is curious to try plant-based eating for themselves.
“Please find it in your heart to not support this horrific cruelty and go plant-based!”5Watson, J. 2018.
