Why Kane Richardson is vegan
Kane Richardson is vegan for the animals.
Kane Richardson became vegan in 2016, after being vegetarian for six months first. Kane went vegetarian after he and his partner drove past some lambs and made the connection that farmed animals were not all that different from the dog they loved. From that moment on, Kane and his partner stopped eating meat. Two years later, after watching Cowspiracy on Netflix, Kane decided to level up to veganism.1Dikshit, V. 2020. Although he didn’t go vegan for health reasons, Kane started to feel leaner and more energetic after the dietary switch and the back problems that had previously plagued his career stopped rearing their ugly head.
In 2016, Kane RIchardson campaigned to end the use of leather cricket balls.2Earle, R. 2016. Vegan fast bowler Kane Richardson wants to see end of leather cricket balls. The Daily Telegraph. “We drove past a farm or something and there were some lambs and my partner was like, ‘They actually remind me of our dog.’ From that day on, we stopped eating lamb, and once you make a justification of one thing, it’s like we probably shouldn’t eat beef either, and then it’s pork, fish, chicken. And then you go vegetarian and a natural progression of that is to not eat dairy or eggs either.”3Dikshit, V. 2020. If you go for 12 off three balls, don’t let the over cost 20. Cricinfo.
