Why Damian Hall is vegan
Damian Hall is vegan for the environment, the animals and for health.
Damian Hall became vegan in 2021 primarily as a way of reducing his carbon footprint but the animal welfare and health reasons for adopting a plant-based diet made his decision even easier: “Cutting out meat and dairy reduces a person’s food footprint by up to 74 per cent. Animal cruelty is horrible and processed meat is a carcinogen (and red meat a ‘probable’ carcinogen) according to WHO, meaning I had three compelling reasons to stop” eating animal products, he said on a 2025 Instagram post.1ultradamo. 2025. Driven by concerns for the environment and disappointment after COP26, Damian Hall co-founded The Green Runners in 2022, to call for climate action, hold corporations accountable, and encourage environmentally-friendly running habits.
“I just really feel strongly that time’s running out. It’s just really quite alarming. Mostly it’s alarming that politicians and some big businesses aren’t acting quickly enough. We’re really starting to struggle and run out of time. And this is a bit naff really, but I just think, what will my kids think of us? And their kids. We mostly know what’s happening in the world, and we’re not doing enough. We’re not acting quickly enough and what are people going to think of us.”2Great Vegan Athletes. 2026. Damian Hall.
