Appearances can be deceiving and this is certainly the case with American metal singer, songwriter, filmmaker, and voice actor, Rob Zombie. Zombie is a founding member of the heavy metal band White Zombie as well as being a solo artist. A fan of horror films (no surprises there), Zombie directed House of 1000 Corpses and its sequel, The Devil’s Rejects.

Rob went vegan after watching a documentary called The Animals Film in the 1980s and soon realised veganism and punk rock go hand in hand, as both are about thinking for yourself.2Sullivan, A. 2019. Both Rob Zombie and his wife, Sheri Moon, are outspoken animal advocates – but they don’t just talk the talk. As well as being involved with animal sanctuaries, they provide homes for rescued animals on their own property in Connecticut. When his parents were both diagnosed with cancer in their sixties, Rob convinced them to adopt a plant-based diet to help with their health. They are now in their eighties.1Sullivan, A. 2019. “I saw a movie when I was young that made me stop eating meat, The Animals Film, a documentary made in the 1980s narrated by Julie Christie. It was the first time I saw what went on in factory farming and I was horrified. I rented it at a video store and I just didn’t know. How did I think these animals were dying — of old age? It’s horrific. Once you see something like that, you can’t unsee it. I can’t pretend like it’s not happening.”1Sullivan, A. 2019.
