Propagandhi is a Canadian punk rock band formed in 1986 by guitarist Chris Hannah and drummer Jord Samolesky. The four-piece punk band also includes Todd Kowalski on bass and Sulynn Hago on guitar.

Since 1993, the band has released seven studio albums, the last being Victory Lap in in 2017. In 2024, the band revealed that they are back in the studio working on their eighth album, which they say will be “top notch.”

Propagandhi is known for lyrics about animal rights, human rights and other important social justice issues. Every album includes at least one song about animal rights including: ‘Apparently, I’m A “P.C. Fascist” (Because I Care About Both Human And Non-human Animals)’, ‘Lower Order (A Good Laugh)’ which is about hunting, ‘Human(e) Meat (The Flensing of Sandor Katz)’, and  ‘Nailing Descartes To The Wall / (Liquid) Meat Is Still Murder’, just to name a few.

In an interview with Peta Australia, Chris Hannah explained why he went vegan:

“I think I had just seen too much brutality as a kid: chicks stomped flat at a hatchery, gophers skinned alive, frogs who had their legs pulled off and were left to die, deer hanging from the rafters in garages and bleeding out into buckets, pigs and cows destined for slaughter who were clearly in distress. I lived out in the country for many years as a kid, and for me, the endless procession of unnecessary violence towards non-human animals became too much. I felt like I had to at least symbolically withdraw my support from the industries that profit from this violence, so I stopped eating animal products.”
