Lucas Woodward – Holding Absence

Holding Absence is a critically-acclaimed metal band from Cardiff, Wales. All members of the band are either vegan or vegetarian.

Holding Absence formed in 2015 and released their debut record, Holding Absence, in 2019 on SharpTone Records. In 2021, their second album, The Greatest Mistake of My Life, was released, followed by The Noble Art of Self Destruction two years later. The band’s fourth album, Modern Life is Lonely, is expected to be released in August 2026.

Why Lucas Woodward is vegan

Holding Absence vocalist, Lucas Woodward became vegan after being a vegetarian for several years. Becoming a vegetarian was a positive life choice for him but he started to feel hypocritical for eating and drinking other animal products. He therefore made the change from vegetarian to vegan and noticed improvements to his health.

In 2023, Lucas, spoke to V-Land UK:

“I’ve been vegetarian for almost ten years now and it was a really positive life choice for me. I decided to make the change on January 1st, and several years later, I’d started to feel a little hypocritical about being a veggie. So, eight years later, on January 1st again, I decided to make the switch to veganism. My family are very used to it now, but the biggest change was to my health – I have very bad acid reflux, and I struggled a little at first.
