Dave Dictor – MDC
Dave Dictor is the singer of American punk-rock band MDC. Dictor co-founded the band back in 1979 in Austin, Texas and they became part of the first wave of socially and politically-minded hardcore bands. Since 1982, MDC have released 10 studio albums as well as a handful of EPs, live albums, and have contributed to countless compilations. Never afraid to shy away from an issue, MDC played on the Rock Against Reagan Tour and have campaigned, through their music, against Donald Trump. The initial incarnation of the band split in 1995 but Dictor brought MDC back from the dead in 2000 with an all-new line-up. Still going strong, MDC played Vegan Camp Out in 2023.
Many of MDC’s songs include references to veganism but perhaps one of the most obvious is ‘Chicken Squawk’:
“When I walk into the store, they sell the chickens by the score
But eating dead birds just ain’t for me
I don’t eat roast beef or fish, Porky Pig is not my dish
Just go ahead and let your chickens beIn chicken circles it’s Adolph Perdue
Wants to feed featherless chicken to you
I don’t take orders from Colonel Sanders, do you?”
