Lee Brace

Lee Brace is an established figure in the UK comedy scene. He won The UK Pun Championships in 2023 and was named Best Vegan Comedian at The VegFestUK Awards 2024. Lee is also the creator of several vegan-themed comedy characters, including activist Dawn Chorus (pictured above) and Peter the Meat Eater, which feature across his videos and live performances.

Lee also runs Plant-Braced, a blog dedicated to comedy, animal-rights content and all things vegan!

Why Lee Brace is vegan

Lee Brace is vegan for the animals, and has been since 2021.

Speaking to Viva! about his vegan journey, Lee said:

“I’m vegan because I refuse to be someone who claims to care for animals, while paying for them to be exploited and killed. As a kid I was obsessed with animals, wildlife and nature, but like so many of us, that compassion was slowly trained out of me. Veganism was the moment I found it again. I can’t unsee what I’ve seen and I can’t pretend animals aren’t the victims anymore. I can’t undo the harm I unknowingly paid for, but I can do everything in my power now to help stop it. Comedy is the tool I have — it’s what I know — so I use it to make people think, feel and act. I do comedy because if I can make someone laugh, maybe I can make them care.”

“Generally, if you were to ask someone if they are ‘against cruelty to animals’ they will, apart from a select few, unequivocally say YES. If you ask them whether they think ‘we need to kill animals to survive’, they will quite rightly say NO. If you then highlight that ‘in doing so it is an act of cruelty because it’s unnecessary’, they tend to see the contradiction. They realise that their actions and their habits are out of line with their morals and beliefs. That’s what happened to me. But once that connection is made, when your morals and actions are aligned and you abolish all animal cruelty from your life, it’s a very special feeling.”¹Brace, L. 20xx. Plant-braced.
