Rose Lee is the Canadian-raised South Korean mastermind behind Cheap Lazy Vegan, a YouTube channel where she posts cheap and easy vegan recipes, which has also blossomed into a series of cookbooks.

She posted her first “Cheap Lazy Vegan” video on YouTube in May 2015, while living in London, with the intention of just sharing her own thoughts and beliefs about veganism, as well as showing some easy vegan meal ideas. She says that she wanted “to promote this lifestyle in a way that allows people to understand that being vegan does not have to be difficult, expensive, unattainable or super time consuming.” Her YouTube channel now has over 1,000 videos and 791,000 subscribers!

Rose shared her journey to veganism with the strongbodygreenplanet podcast. She started thinking about veganism after taking a philosophy class at university in Canada and found the arguments for animal rights very convincing. Later, she read the book ‘Skinny Bitch’ and stopped eating meat. She then watched the 2005 documentary Earthlings and cut out dairy and eggs. She was still eating fish but in 2014 after a long but “necessary” transition, she finally went vegan.

Rose told LiveKindly:

“We can talk about veganism all day long and the ethics behind it, but if you don’t know how to eat, and if you don’t know how to do it in a practical way that makes sense to your lifestyle, then it’s obviously going to be a challenge. I want to make that easier.”
