She has combined acting with a long-running public identity rooted in dance, performance, and fitness, with roles including Witches of East End and a lead part in The Rookie: Feds. Why Jenna Dewan is vegan
Jenna Dewan is vegan for the animals and for health.
Although she has described herself as “mostly vegan” suggesting she occasionally eats vegetarian food, when she describes what she eats in a day, it’s all plant-based.1Fecteau, J. 2018. Jenna Dewan Tatum Dishes on Her ‘Mostly Vegan’ Diet. People. Available: https://people.com/food/jenna-dewan-tatum-vegan-diet-family/ [Accessed 7 August 2026].
Dewan has traced her decision to go veggie back to childhood, describing how seeing a programme about slaughterhouses when she was around 10 or 11 left her deeply shaken, and she stopped eating meat the next day.2Kinosian, J. 2016. In adulthood, she has framed her diet as both values-led and practical, linking her choices to ethics as well as how she feels day to day, and encouraging people to start with small, realistic steps rather than aiming for perfection.
Her animal advocacy has included a named campaign with PETA focused on fashion cruelty3Abrams, T. 2010. Jenna Dewan Tatum Bares All for PETA. HuffPost. She took part in PETA’s “Leave Wildlife Out of Your Wardrobe” campaign, spotlighting the exotic skins trade and urging people to choose alternatives instead of materials such as snake and crocodile leather. In remarks connected to the campaign, she emphasised how needless the harm is when it is done for accessories.
“…when I was 10 or 11 I saw a [TV] program on slaughterhouses. I just remember being blown away, utterly traumatized. And I declared the next day that I was never eating meat again. And I didn’t – it started then.”4Kinosian, J. 2016. How slaughterhouses turned actress Jenna Dewan Tatum into a vegan. LA Times.
