Aamir Khan is one of Bollywood’s biggest stars and one of the most acclaimed actors in Indian cinema. He has appeared in some of India’s most successful films, with Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, PK and Dangal all holding records as the highest-grossing Indian film at different points in time.

In 2015, Khan publicly announced that he had decided to go vegan after watching a YouTube presentation, shared with him by his then wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, about how diet can help prevent many of the world’s most common diseases. He explained that the video convinced him a vegan diet could be a healthier way of life, and he said he had cut out meat as well as animal-derived foods such as eggs and dairy, switching to plant-based alternatives like soya milk.

Khan also spoke positively about vegan living and encouraged others to consider it too, using his platform to highlight how powerful everyday food choices can be. His decision helped bring veganism into the mainstream in India, showing that even one of the country’s most recognizable public figures was willing to question tradition and choose a more compassionate way of eating.

“I got to know that vegan is a healthy diet. I’d say all of you should follow a vegan diet.” – Aamir Khan
