Stomach (gastric) cancer
The World Health Organisation says that red and processed meat increase the risk of bowel cancer. They also report links between red meat, pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer and processed meat and stomach cancer.
Diets based on animal products and processed foods increase the risk of stomach cancer, whilst vegan diets significantly decrease it.
Processed meat products (such as bacon, sausages and ham) are often salted or smoked, or have nitrates added to them to extend their shelf-life, which could be linked to the increased risk of stomach cancer.
