Vegan powerlifter takes World Championship bronze
The British masters powerlifter took the bronze medal on her World Championship debut
Katie Paskin is celebrating after a powerful performance at the World Classic and Equipped Masters Powerlifting Championships in South Africa, where she stepped off the podium with the bronze medal.
The diminutive 47 kg Brit squatted 92.5 kg – almost twice her bodyweight. Her bench press of 57.5 kg was a competition personal best by 2.5 kg, although she made it look easy with a smooth and solid lock out. An ambitious deadlift of 137.5 kg was also a competition personal best, and she almost nailed 142.5 kg. Maybe next time!
Overall she placed third, partly due to her impressive deadlift, which earned her the deadlift silver.
The bronze at the World Championships comes just a few months after Katie took the silver medal at the Euro Masters Championships, where she won the deadlift event.
Katie is vegan and has been since January 2018. She says, “although I went vegan for the animals, it was the start of me getting into fitness and becoming the healthiest I’ve ever been!”
