Vegan lifter sets new French bench press record

Alison Huet left the French Open with new personal and national records
Facing the best from home and abroad the vegan powerlifter entered the competition with her best preparation to date… and it showed.
Alison Huet already has multiple French titles in the bench press, and at the French Open she was ready to take it further, competing in the 57 kg raw category, which means lifting without any supportive equipment.
She did exactly that with a 2.5 kg addition to her personal best in squat, which is now 155 kg and well over double her bodyweight.
Alison’s powerful bench press of 108.5 kg set a new French national record and beat her previous personal best by half a kilogram. She also matched her personal best in the deadlift with 175 kg.
She lifted a total of 438.5 kg, adding five kilograms to her personal best and racking up a massive total for this category at nearly eight times her bodyweight. She clearly enjoyed herself too:
“If you only knew how much fun I had on the platform, smiling from start to finish, the total trust I had with my coach, and after so many years of competition, it’s not every day that something like this happens, and it felt amazing!”
Vegan power
Alison stopped eating all animal products in 2017 out of concern for the animals:
“I could not stand anymore to eat the living beings that I love so much and that are raised, killed and slaughtered the way they are just for us to eat, while we can have a different way to eat. Because people cannot have a reasonable consumption of meat, animals are treated and raised inhumanely.
I eat a lot of soy, pea, legumes or gluten for protein sources which are very important in my diet. And of course a lot of fruits, vegetables, I love cooking.”
