Cat Phipps put in more fantastic lifts at the English Bench Press Championships to take top spot for a consecutive year.

Cat competed in the 69 kg category and benched 100 kg for the first time – improving on last year’s winning press of 95 kg. In her own words she made it look “underwhelming”, leaving her competitors wondering how much she will lift in future.

We may not have to wait long to find out as the win earned her an invitation to compete at the IPF Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Canada.

Cat has been vegetarian her whole life and turned vegan in 2021, after a period where her diet was mostly plant-based.

“My motive to go vegan was always for the animals. While I’d always classed myself as an animal lover and compassionate about animal rights, I realised – after watching a documentary on the dairy industry – that this was hypocritical if I wasn’t completely vegan.”
