Bristol three take on challenge of a lifetime tackling Mountain Peaks in Yorkshire and Wales
THREE members of staff at a Bristol-based organisation have begun five gruelling months of training in preparation for tackling a mammoth mountain peak fundraising challenge in Yorkshire in May and Wales in July.
Founder & director of St Paul's based Viva! and the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation, Juliet Gellatley, will be joined by editor Helen Rossiter and campaigns assistant Liam Nolan for the incredibly tough endurance events.
For the Viva! and VVF Peak Challenge, the trio will attempt to traverse the Yorkshire 3 Peaks - a 37.5 km (23.5 miles) which must be completed within 12 hours on May 8.
Then on July 3 - they will progress on to tackle 15 of Wales' highest peaks in a 24 hour period... this will involve walking 50 km (32 miles) in 24 hours, including ascending peaks whose summits are above 3,000 ft.
Juliet, Helen and Liam will be joined by 15 Viva! supporters, who are all together aiming to raise thousands of pounds in sponsorship for Viva!'s campaigns to end factory farming, animal suffering and the promotion of a meat-free diet.
Juliet says: "I've had good intentions about getting fit for years and managed to buy a Jane Fonda video but never opened the packet! We are doing these walks for Viva! and it is going to be the challenge of a lifetime. First we are climbing the Yorkshire 3 peaks and then doing the Welsh 15 Peaks. It's really insane but we are all very positive. We hope people will find it in their hearts to encourage us so we can raise as much money as possible for Viva! to help save animals."
Helen says: "This is going to be the biggest physical challenge of my life so far, but I'm already well on track with training and getting fitter by the day, so I'm determined to succeed!"
Liam says: "I'm pretty confident and think it will be fine! I'm hoping all the pain and training will pay off so we raise lots of money in sponsorship."
