COMMENTS
It's in a quirky old bookshop, well worth the visit for food and books. Main meals served between 12 noon and 3pm, soups till 4.30/5pm, drinks and cakes till 5.15pm. They are looking into a breakfast menu and afternoon snack menu I've been told, more so for when its autumn/winter.

Updated information from the restaurant:

A warm and friendly café providing wholesome, tasty food using locally sourced food wherever possible. Our menu is solely vegetarian and also caters for both the vegan and gluten free diets (and we don’t charge extra for soya alternatives or gluten free bread).

We have a varied breakfast menu, from our famous ‘breakfast special’ which includes; choice of egg, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, 2 rounds of toast and a tea or coffee for only £4.70, to simple porridge, fruit and honey for just £2.90.

Our soups (including a wholemeal roll or gluten free scone) are freshly made every day and are incredibly popular at £3.80/£4.00, recent favourites have included; sweet potato, carrot and ginger, spicy lentil with tomatoes and cauliflower and cashew nut. Pop in to see today’s choices.

Our lunch menu includes Sandwiches, Toasties, Panini’s or Jackets with a variety of fillings ranging from brie and grape, to simple cheese and homemade tomato chutney, all are served with a tasty fresh salad and the sandwiches are available on either white or granary, starting at £4.15. If you are looking for a more substantial meal we have a range of specials which change daily (or sometimes more frequently!), recent choices have included Creamy Leek & Mushroom Pie served with roast potatoes and braised red cabbage, Squash and Apricot Tagine served with rice and a Beetroot and Goats Cheese Tart served with crushed potatoes, salad and handmade coleslaw. Please see the specials board for today’s menu.

Our scrumptious cakes are all handmade on the premises and at just £2.10 are perfect for a sweet treat with one of our speciality teas or a cup of our delicious coffee especially blended for us by Northern Tea Merchants. We always have a choice of at least 2 gluten free and vegan cakes available. Whole cakes are available to buy from just £12, although it’s usually best to give us a couple of days’ notice to ensure we’ve got what you want.

All food is available to takeaway

A supporter wrote to us with this recommendation. She said the restaurant serves quite a lot of 'really lovely vegan food' but didn't give more details. The restaurant doesn't have a website so we don't know much, other than it has plenty of vegan options and friendly staff!
